If you are meeting a guy you met online for the first time, it is always better to take a few precautions. Most likely, he would not be in your social circle, so there is no one who can vouch for his character. Here are some tips to your first date:
• Ask for recent photos of him. This way you can readily identify him when you meet the first time.
• Set the date in a public place. Be sure that there are a lot of people around at all times. If both of you are open to it, try going on a group date the first time.
• Do not let him pick you up from your house, nor bring you back to his house. At this point, it is not safe to let him know your home address just yet. Neither is it safe to go home with him.
• Tell someone about your plans. Give him/her the details of who you are meeting, where you are meeting, and when this is going to happen.
• Have your own transportation, or ensure that meeting place is in a part where public transportation back to your place is accessible.
• During the time that you are together, avoid drinking alcohol. Do not leave your drink at the table. You can never be too sure if he can be trusted not to spike it with anything.
• Do not assume right away that you can trust him. Regardless how long you have been chatting online, it is always better err on side of caution.
